Writing Mini Lesson - Emotions
Last week we began our narrative story writing. Before writing about the reactions of our characters, we first talked about our own emotions.
The kids had fun making their best happy faces and sad faces and angry faces too! Then, we talked about different things that make them feel those emotions.
Here is the list my kids came up with and a follow up activity about their emotions. Next up... putting these emotions and reactions into our story writing.

Bears
Snowmen and penguins and bears... oh my! January is a busy month. This week and last week, we have been talking about bears and hibernation. We do a lot of non-fiction reading about bears and tie in some great fiction stories as well.
One of my favorite books to read is Good Night Baby Bear by Frank Asch. It is a great mentor text to use when talking about story parts. This is just one of the activities we did with Good Night Baby Bear.
Don't forget about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. My students enjoy comparing the original story to The Three Snow Bears by Jan Brett.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I can't believe another year has gone by... it happens so quickly!
As the new year begins, I always talk with my students about what goals they have for the new year. I love to hear what they come up with. From learning how to ride a two wheeled bike, to becoming a better writer, my students take these goals very seriously.
Here is a little project that I put together to do when we go back on Monday. My kids will write 3 goals and cut out the hat. If you want something a little quicker, I have also made a one sheet paper to complete. I hope you enjoy this freebie, and hearing about the goals of your students!

Snowman Cups
My younger son is in charge of snack for his preschool tomorrow. Snack day = Pinterest in my house! After checking out a few choices, he picked snowman popcorn cups.
Ry was working very hard putting faces on each cup. He was also very excited to use Mom's special markers. (It's not every day that I let my 4 year old use Sharpies at my kitchen table!) He even set up his Frosty book so he could look at the face, it was too cute. I might have to make these as a special snack for the kids in my class, with Ry's help of course!
